Penang is a state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The state is divided into two parts by the Strait of Malacca. This state was the first British settlement in Peninsular Malaysia.
Name is taken from the name of the island of betel nut tree. It is also called Tanjung Bidara before known Penang.
Penang is one of the 13 states in Malaysia. Located near the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Penang consists of the island and the mainland known as Seberang Perai.
George Town is the capital of Penang, Malaysia. Opened in 1786 by Captain Francis Light and Georgetown have become one of the cities in Malaysia.Georgetown is Malaysia's oldest city after Queen Elizabeth II gave city status on January 1, 1957 the local authority for the City of Georgetown is Penang Municipal Council.
However, in the process of restructuring in 1976, the City Council of George Town was merged with the Rural District Council Penang Island Municipal Council of Penang into. Thus, although no city status officially withdrawn (by amending the law), both federal and state governments the impression that George Town is not a city. The Penang state government in 2012 has proposed to Georgetown as a city official, but still no final word. Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) was established on December 15, 1976, under the Local Government Act, 1976. The Council is an organization that provides local authority services for the City of Georgetown. Council operations and activities of daily living affect the quality of the public directly.
